EU AI Act Transparency Obligations Enter Force Today, Requiring Chatbot Disclosures and AI Content Watermarks

Article 50 of the EU AI Act became enforceable on August 2, 2026: AI chatbots must now disclose they are not human, AI-generated content must carry machine-readable watermarks, and deepfakes require explicit labeling. Non-compliance carries penalties of up to 35 million euros or 7 percent of global annual turnover, enforced by national authorities across all 27 member states.
