25 tech companies including Meta, Microsoft and Nvidia back a US open-weight AI policy letter

A coalition of 25 organizations signed a letter urging US policymakers to protect open-weight model ecosystems from premature regulation, arguing open weights are as essential to American AI competitiveness as open-source software was in the 1980s. Signatories include Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, IBM, Palantir, Hugging Face, Mistral and Y Combinator, with OpenAI and Anthropic notably absent.
